Hole In One...Bees

IMG_2126
deWayne climbs the ladder of success
to get a bees eye view!
IMG_2124
A vent proves to be a lovely point
of entrance for the honey bees in this golf course home.

IMG_2128
Inside the vent there are
two different openings.

A temperature gun is used to measure heat.

A stud finder always helps!

Southbridge Bees
deWayne uses a "hand tool" known as
his palm to also locate bees.

Southbridge Bees
Doing it the old fashion way!

Room is prepped!

the homeowners property!

Let the quest begin!

deWayne measures prior to making the cut.

Nice arms, Mr. Jaudon

Southbridge Bees
A clean cut...

IMG_2218
You can see the two peep holes, deWayne drilled in wall
and ceiling to confirm honey bees location.

Southbridge Bees
A cut into the ceiling confirms the larger portion of the colony.

Southbridge Bees
Wow, what a mess!

Southbridge Bees
Yuk!  Honey bees stuck inside of insulation.
Southbridge Bees
deWayne begins to use the bee vac to suck out
a small amount of honey bees from cavity in wall.

Southbridge Bees
Goodness!
You never know what you're going to find behind a wall!

IMG_2257
Two cavities, one colony.

IMG_2258
Woe!  What an amazing site!

IMG_2262
Without hesitation, deWayne reaches into the womb of the colony
and begins to remove the honey comb and bees.

Southbridge Bees
Beautiful virgin honeycomb, means the queen
has not layed any eggs inside the cells.
However, notice the capped honey at the very top of the comb, so pretty!!

Southbridge Bees
Tiny spaces are always a challenge to work in,
but deWayne does an excellent job at removing the honey bees and their comb.

Southbridge Bees
Cute pic!  We were both sore after this job,
you don't realize the muscles you use in a bee removal!

Vent hose showing honeycomb.

Southbridge Bees
See the wax tracks above the hose?
This is where the honeycomb hung, prior to deWayne removing it.

Hose and honeycomb

Southbridge Bees
deWayne seals the deal by spraying foam inside cavity.

IMG_2284
Foam swells, by the way!

Southbridge Bees
Great job, all holes are completely
filled inside and out.

IMG_2283
It's a messy job, but somebody has to do it!

Southbridge Bees
A basket full of bees, and we got the queen.

Southbridge Bees
Honeycomb galore!

Southbridge Bees
Lots of delicious honey!

Bees are relocated to our farm for a new beginning...
