"First Swarm Removal Of 2011"

deWayne and I put up the scaffolding in an effort to retrieve a colony of bees in this beautiful tree in downtown Savannah, Georgia.

deWayne prepares to close off the entrance to the colony, who have made their home in this lovely tree.

deWayne smokes the tree in hopes to lure the bees off  during the "BEE ESCAPE METHOD".

deWayne begins the "Bee Escape Method", a procedure of extracting bees by using a screen cone attached to a board.  The cone allows bees to exit, but not re-enter.

Mrs. Smith, homeowner, watches as deWayne prepares to lift hivebox on to the scaffolding.

A close-up shot of the enclosure with the cone facing the scaffolding walk-board.

deWayne getting ready for a work-out!

deWayne slowly lifts the hivebox up to the top of the scaffolding, where it will sit for three weeks.  A new queen has been placed inside the hivebox , and will serve as a motive for the bees to make the box their new home!

I love this pic!
